Introducing Tongass Teague’s Hiking & Driving Tours
FIND YOURSELF WHERE THE FOREST MEETS THE SKY
Most visitors see Ketchikan from a distance but few get to feel it under their boots. If you’re the kind of traveler who craves real connection to nature, to place, and to purpose, Tongass Teague is your way in. These aren’t just tours, they’re immersive journeys through ancient rainforest, misty mountain trails, and hidden backroads that most never find. Ready to explore what most never will?
OUR TRAILS
Every trail tells a story, but only if you know how to listen. From moss-covered creeks to alpine overlooks, each of our guided hikes is a chance to step deeper into the soul of the Tongass. Choose the path that speaks to you.

Welcome to where the trails are quieter, the trees are older, the adventures are richer, and the wild still rules.
Based in Ketchikan, Alaska, we offer small-group hiking and SUV backcountry tours designed to immerse you in the untamed beauty of the Tongass National Forest. These aren’t tourist loops. They’re deep-woods experiences that get you close to mossy giants, mountain ridges, and the kind of quiet that sticks with you. We bring you face to face alpine overlooks, and the deep stillness of old-growth wilderness.
With no more than 6–7 folks per tour, you’ll enjoy personalized guidance, local stories, and a real connection to the land. Whether you’re trekking a rainforest trail or winding through remote forest roads, you’re not just exploring, you’ll be discovering Alaska the way it was meant to be seen: up close, unfiltered, and unforgettable.

Yes. As part of your tour package, transportation is included from the downtown Ketchikan cruise-ship docks to the trail head and back. If you are arriving by Alaska State ferry, private boat, or by plane, please make sure to contact Tongass Teague for special pick-up arrangements depending on where you will be staying.
-
No. Because the tour takes place in an Alaskan temperate rain forest, rain may be most likely and can be a beautiful part of the experience.
-
If needed, backpacks and trekking poles are available to use. Depending on availability—ponchos for those without rain gear. We also provide boxed water.
-
Generally, usually we don’t. However, depending on a date’s specific availability and tour, we sometimes can. We have two vehicles and two guides. Each vehicle can carry up to 6 guests. If both vehicles and guides are available, we can accommodate up to 12 guests total on the Ketchikan Magical Old-Growth Creek Trail. Using a taxi plus one of our vehicles, we can accommodate up to 8 guests on the Ketchikan Mountain Lake Trek to Avalanche Chute. Please contact us to make those arrangements.
-
Unfortunately, no. There are a limited amount of trails that guides are allowed to commercially guide in the Ketchikan area. Deer Mountain and Dude Mountain are regulated by the Tongass National Forest and commercially guided hikes on these trails are not currently permitted. Tongass Teague is permitted on a couple of other trails that he does not promote if someone would like to create and book a Custom Tour.
