What to Expect During a Wellness Session

What a Wellness Session Is

Healing isn't always about fixing things, but is often about how we can shift our perception, our approach to, or our relationship with the reality of our circumstances. When we can get beyond the "good" and "bad" of our judgments, we can begin to see more clearly the nature of our being.

Teague's wellness sessions draw from several complementary approaches:

Life Coaching focuses on finding greater balance among the different areas of your life—relationships, work, finances, interests, health, spirituality, and more. Together, you and Teague can identify areas where you may feel stuck or dissatisfied and explore new ways of approaching them.

Spiritual Counseling explores how your own religious or spiritual background and practices—or new ones you may be curious about—can help you move through challenging periods of life with greater presence, peace, joy, and equanimity.

Energy Work begins with the connection between you and Teague: an exchange of care, attention, presence, discovery, and release that you may experience in your body, mind, or spirit. Teague's approach also draws upon a spiritual understanding of our connection to the larger life and energy surrounding us.

Meditation can help us practice mindfulness and learn to be present with whatever life brings. Simple but sometimes challenging, meditation teaches us to sit with ourselves and notice our thoughts, emotions, and bodily experiences with greater awareness and less judgment.

A session may incorporate some or all of these approaches depending upon what you would like to explore.

What a Wellness Session Is Not

Wellness sessions with Teague are not psychotherapy, medical or psychiatric care, massage therapy, or a substitute for treatment from a licensed healthcare or mental-health professional. Teague does not diagnose or treat mental or physical illness or prescribe medication.

That doesn't mean the work cannot be personal, deep, profound, and sometimes even challenging. Conversation, meditation, spiritual exploration, and energy work can bring forward emotions, physical sensations, questions, or unexpected insights. The experience can also be liberating, restorative, and healing.

You always remain in control of your participation. Touch is optional and requires your consent, and you may change direction, take a break, decline any part of the work, or end a session at any time.

In-Person Wellness Sessions

Before your first session, you are welcome to complete an optional questionnaire that asks about different areas of your life—relationships, work, interests, environment, spirituality, finances, and mental and physical well-being. It can help you consider what you might like to explore and give Teague a starting point for your conversation.

You will also be asked to review and sign a client agreement, consent and liability waiver describing the nature and scope of the work.

At the beginning of your session, you and Teague will talk about what you would like to explore. You may have something specific you'd like to work on, or you may simply begin with whatever feels most present that day. Teague will listen, talk with you, and ask questions as the two of you explore different ways of understanding or approaching what is happening in your life.

The overall intention is to address tension in your life, body, and mind and create space for greater awareness, release, connection, and relaxed being.

In-person sessions take place in a private wellness space in Teague's home north of Ketchikan. You will remain fully clothed and generally lie on your back on a massage table with clean sheets, a pillow, and a bolster beneath your knees for comfort. A light sheet is also available if you would like one.

Teague generally sits in a chair behind your head and, with your permission, may gently place his palms on your shoulders as a way of connecting and settling into the session. There may be periods of conversation as well as periods of quiet, meditation, or energy work.

Relaxing music is generally played quietly during the session, although you are welcome to choose other music or request silence.

Sessions are generally one hour long. Longer sessions may be available by arrangement.

Online Wellness Sessions

Online sessions are conducted through Zoom. Please choose a quiet, comfortable, private space where you can connect without interruption using a computer, tablet, or phone.

Online sessions naturally focus more on conversation, reflection, spiritual counseling, and meditation, although distance-based energy work may also be incorporated if you are interested in that approach.

As with in-person sessions, the questionnaire is optional and the client agreement, consent and liability waiver is required before your first session.

Online sessions are available regardless of where you live.

Booking

Sessions can be booked through the online calendar on the Living Thread Wellness Sessions homepage. If you would prefer a time that isn't shown as available, please contact Teague.

Online booking times are listed in Alaska Time, generally four hours behind Eastern Time.

If you're unsure whether a wellness session is right for you or have questions before booking, you're welcome to contact Teague first.
